I know it has been along time since i wrote! I thought i'd written and posted photos when in Victor Harbour but could not get my laptop online. Now weeks later and back near Brisbane have a use of a computer but will not get the chance to upload photos sorry! We have some great ones too! What can i say it has been a good month but tiring. we had a great stay in Victor Harbour and were looked after by Lynda and Colin, now surragate grandparents to our children. The weather was very mixed, cool some rain but we enjoyed relaxing watching DVD's such as "Keeping Mum". The kids loved Kangeroo Jack and Westside story time and time again, what a strange mix. We also got involved at Southern Gateway church, a great and friendly place, Rachel sang a few times and we were inspired by there friendliness and good preaching. Why are people so clicky back in the UK? We had trips out to the beach, the bluff and Granite island to see Penguins, seals and dolphins. Also a day out to Adelaide, lovely city and so clean with bizare public transport, buses which become trains on concrete rails!!! Well when we were in Swan Hill we bought a tent, tried it out on the great ocean road, first night Darcy was sick as in vomited everywhere!! and we woke up to rain!!! think this is all covered in Rachel's blog! Great Ocean road was spectacular and at the 12 apostles the buisest tourist place (more than Uluru). Anyway when we left Victor Harbour, it was a sad day.. we drove up to port augusta and spent a night in the tent the start off 14 nights under the stars!!! the next day another 6 hours in the car took us to Coober pedy a hot place no grass here to pitch your tent!! It is were they filmed Mad Max in the night i put my hand under the pillow(some soft toys in a pillow case) and it felt like an oven the heat radiating from the ground was unbelievable! Rachel actually wanted to spend a couple of months here, it is a bizare place and arty but i'm sure a week would do!! Opal mines aborigines and one street but a friendly libray!! Free night camping at Curtain springs with roaming Emu's after another long derive. hey but the road trains are impresive i counted one with 76 wheels!! Uluru was worth the drive and it is so RED, hot and desert like, saw a baby snake(or was it a legless lizard) on our walk around it, respectfully did not climb it. Watched sunsets and sunrises, the stars at night absolutly fascinating, brillant! Also had a great walk at Kata Jutiga (olgas). Drove onto Kings Canyon at the camp site We had the pleasure of seeing a eastern brown snake devouring a dead mouse outside the camp kitchen (ours was the nearest tent!!) Kings canyon was a lovely walk with a fab waterhole to cool off in on our way round, we also had the pleasure of two other travellers one from Spain another from switerland we had met at uluru(ayers rock). Drove onto Ellory's creek a night in the Bush. Darcy, Seth and I slept under the stars Fantastic! Alice Spring great but small, Rachel like the digerdoo workshop, kids had a tub of ice cream from Coles(supermarket). Sad seeing the aboriginees very much a disonectd people, can't even put proper petrol in your car due to the problems of sniffing!! Had a drive up to Devil's marbles(400 plus km) saw snake on the road actualy ran over it's tail (sorry). Spent night there great dawn walk good photos will follow one day i hope. Drove on to Tennets creek, then Mount Isa. Each day 300miles of driving!! Kept on across to Hugheden, met lovely fishing couple. This was dinasour country! Eventually got to Townsvile (Charter towers was a nice place enjoyed the bakery there or was it just the change from peanutbutter sandwhiches!) feeling more tropical no longer the dry heat! Had a good day on the great barrier reef, nr the whitsundays went from Airlee beach, still think the reef at Roatan in Honduras was better!! mind you they had have a lot of rain here so much so Mackay had been called a disaster area and it ws a full moon. Met a lovelly couple on the boat who invited around for a BBQ when we got back to nr Brisbane as they live just 5 mins down the road from our friends.... had a good evening with them Seth went catching Cane toads!! Well we got back here nr Brisbane and had a great day out at the Zoo yesterday but sad seeing all the Steve Irwin stuff, very touching and challenging what one man can do!! Well we move on to South East asia this will be a real adventure frightening!! Will try to write more frequently and have loads of photos to show. Until whenever Take care and make the most out of Life.. |
